Şiddete uğrayan kadına sağlık hizmeti sunan sağlık çalışanlarından birisi özellikle ebe ve hemşireler olduğundan bu araştırmada ebelik ve hemşirelik öğrencilerinin kadına yönelik şiddete ilişkin tutumlarını belirlemek amaçlanmıştır.Yöntem: Araştırma kesitsel tanımlayıcı bir çalışma olup örneklem seçimi yapılmamış evrenin tümüne ulaşılmaya çalışılmıştır. Araştırmaya Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi Ebelik ve Hemşirelik bölümlerinde okuyan toplam 1389 öğrenci katılmıştır. Veriler “Kişisel Bilgi Formu”, “Kadına Uygulanan Şiddete İlişkin Tutum Ölçeği” kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Araştırma araştırmacılar tarafından çalışmaya katılmayı kabul edenlere anket yöntemiyle uygulanmıştır.Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %33.3’ü ebelik, %66.6’sı hemşirelik bölümündedir. Öğrencilerin %61.1’i şiddete tanık olduğunu, %26.2’si anne babaları tarafından şiddete uğradıklarını, en fazla aile içinde psikolojik şiddet (%49.0) gördüklerini belirtmişlerdir. Öğrencilerin %57.2’si derslerde şiddettin işlendiğini, %65.4’ü şiddete uğrayan kadına yaklaşımda bulunamayacağını belirtmektedir. Hemşirelik bölümünde okuyan, 1. sınıf, erkek, geniş ve parçalanmış ailede yaşayan, anne babası okuryazar olmayan, köyde yaşayanların şiddete ilişkin tutumunda gelenekselliğin arttığı belirlenmiştir. Şiddete tanık olanların olmayanlara göre çağdaş görüşe yaklaştığı saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Şiddete tanık olan öğrencilerin kadına yönelik uygulanan şiddete ilişkin tutumlarının çağdaş görüşe yaklaştığı belirlenmiş, öğrencilerin yarısından fazlası şiddete uğramış kadına yaklaşımda bulunamayacağını belirtmiştir. Geleceğin ebe/hemşirelerine eğitim süreçlerinde kadına yönelik şiddet konularının işlenmesi, duyarlılık ve bilgilendirme eğitimleri yapılması önemlidir.Background: Violence against women is one of the significant problems in our country as in all over the world. Since healthcare professionals especially midwives and nurses constitute one of the occupational groups with which women exposed to violence encounter. Objectives: It is targeted herein to determine nursing and midwifery students’ attitudes towards violence against women. Methods: Current study is a cross-sectional descriptive study, sampling selection wasn’t made and it is tried to reach the entire universe. Sampling is made up of 1389 students studying in Cumhuriyet University, Nursing and Midwifery departments. Data are collected from 15 October to 15 November 2014 by the questionnaire method using “Personal Information Form” and “Scale of Nursing and Midwifery Students Attitudes Towards Violence Against Women”. Data were evaluated in SPSS program. Results: 33.3% and 66.6% of students are studying respectively at the departments of midwifery and nursing. 61.1%, 26.2% and 49.0% of students are reported respectively to have witnessed violence, have been exposed to violence and physiological violence. 57.2% of students stated that violence is discussed in the courses and 65.4% of them stated that they couldn’t approach the women who are exposed to the violence. Traditionalism is found to have increased in the attitudes of ones at first grade, men, those living in a large and broken family and the ones whose mother and father are not literate and live in a village towards violence. The ones who witnessed violence are found to have pulled away from the traditionalism and to have approached more modern view as compared with the ones who haven’t witnessed it. Conclusion: Students who witnessed violence was found to pull away from traditionalism and approach modern view and more than half of the students stated that they can’t approach a woman exposed to violence.
