The chromite deposits of Turkey and their platinum group element potential: a review
Abstract
Chromite mineralization/deposits in Turkey are situated in six different major areas, which are remnants of the Neo-Tethyan Oceanic crust. Reserve of the mineralization varies from tens of tons to a few thousand tons. Alpine-type structure and texture is very common feature in almost all of the deposits/mineralization. In the different nomenclature diagrams, chromites of Turkey are generally named as "Aluminum Chromite" and "Ferrichromite" on ternary major-oxide (Fe2O3-Al2O3-Cr2O3) component diagram. Based on Cr/Cr+Al and Mg/Mg+Fe ratios of chromite mineralization/deposits in Turkey, chromite ores in generally formed by low-high partial melting of magma under conditions of oxygen fugacity in the various place of ultramafic suite.
