Döviz Kurları, Dış Ticaret Ve Ekonomik Büyüme İlişkisi: Türkiye Üzerine Bir Uygulama
Abstract
The inevitable interaction of countries in a globalizing world has made the
relationship between foreign trade and exchange rate magnitudes important. The
sustainability of economic growth is important in terms of attracting capital flows from
abroad and continuity of investments.
In our study, monthly data through the base exchange rate as an indicator of
consumer price index for the period covering the 2010M01-2019M04 Turkey based
real effective exchange rate; export unit value index and import unit index as foreign
trade indicator; as the indicator of economic growth, seasonally adjusted and shockfree
industrial production index was used as variable. Stability of the series at the level
and the presence of unit roots were determined by ADF (Augmented Dickey-Fuller)
and PP (Phillips-Perron) Unit Root Tests. Since there is a unit root problem in the level
values of our variables, the first differences of the variables were studied. With the ADF
test, the most suitable model was found to be trendy and stable. According to the
results of Granger test, one-way causality relationship was found between import and
exchange rate, which is one of the foreign trade indicators, from exchange rate to
import and from export to import. The causality relationship between the other
variables could not be determined.
