Buna göre, bulgular üç başlık altında değerlendirildi: (a). In this study, we investigated the distribution of intestinal parasites among the students of two village schools. Each school included both primary and secondary grades. The age of the students ranged from 6 to 15 years. After explaining the purpose of our investigation, its possible benefit to their health and the kind of material that we wanted from them, each student was given a small, plastic container with cover for securing stool specimen and a microscope slide on which adhesive cellophane tape had been mounted lengthwise for obtaining perianal material (PAM). Then we described the methods used in obtaining both of the specimens. Both stool specimens and microscope slides were collected the next day and brought to our laboratory. Only one preparation was prepared in saline from each stool specimen. This preparation was first screened for protozoon trophozoites and for both helminth eggs and larvae. Then 1-2 drops of iodine solution were added from the side of the coverslip for the identification of protozoon cysts and the slide was re-examined. Cellophane tape preparations were either examined directly under the microscope or examined after the addition of 1-2 drops of vinegar along the side of tape. A total of 382 students (203 boys and 179 girls) submitted both specimens (stool and PAM) whereas few submitted only one. Findings have been given in detail in the text but here we have only discussed the findings in the 382 students. Of the 382 students 272 harbored one or more intestinal parasites. One hundred and forty of the 272 students harbored only one parasite; 79, two; and 53, more than two parasites. Again, in 117 students we detected only protozoa, in 62 only helminths, and in 93 both protozoa and helminths. The highest number of parasite that was detected in one student was five. The species of parasites found in students were as follows: 16 (3.9%) Ascaris lumbricoides, 19 (4.9%) Trichuris trichiura, 119 (31.1%) Enterobius vermicularis, 13 (3.4%) Taenia saginata, 8 (2.1%) Hymenolepis nana, 110 (28.8%) Giardia intestinalis, 41 (10.7) Entamoeba histolytica, 117 (30.6%) E. coli, and 17 (4.4%) others (such as lodamoeba, Chilomastix).
