Effect of Yoga on Hemodialysis Patients

Objectives
This study aimed to determine the effect of yoga practice on fatigue, comfort, and functional status in individuals receiving
hemodialysis treatment.
References
This randomized controlled study included 67 hemodialysis patients. Data were collected using the Patient Information Form,
the Piper Fatigue Scale (PFS), the Hemodialysis Comfort Scale (HCS), and the Functional Performance Inventory (FPI).
Results
Before the intervention of yoga, the patients’ mean scores from the PFS, the HCS, and the FPI were similar (p>0.05). After yoga,
the mean scores of the intervention group for the PFS significantly decreased, while the mean scores of this group for the HCS
and the FPI significantly increased (p<0.05).
Conclusion/Application to practice
In line with these results, it was concluded that it is beneficial for nurses to utilize yoga practices in the treatment of patients
receiving hemodialysis.
