ÇOCUKLARDA GÖRÜLEN SOSYAL PROBLEMLERİN AKADEMİK BAŞARIYA ETKİSİ ÜZERİNE ÖĞRETMEN GÖRÜŞLERİNİN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Nitel araştırma biçiminde desenlenen bu çalışma ile ilkokul öğretmenlerinin öğrencilerde görülen sosyal problemlerin akademik başarıya etkisine ilişkin görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri, 2012-2013 eğitim öğretim yılı bahar yarıyılında, Sivas ili Suşehri ilçe sınırları içerisinde yer alan farklı eğitim kurumlarında yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden elde edilmiş, elde edilen veriler betimsel ve içerik analiz yöntemleriyle irdelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre öğretmenler sosyallik kavramını iletişim ve arkadaşlık ilişkileri ile ifade etmiştir. Sosyal problem yaşayan öğrencilerin akademik başarısının daha düşük olduğunu belirten öğretmenler, bu öğrencilerin derslere ilgilerinin düşük seviyede olduğunu ve motivasyon sorunu yaşadıklarını belirtmişleridir. Ailenin, sosyal beceri gelişiminin önemli bir parçası olduğunu vurgulamış ve bu konuda ailelerin bilinçlendirilmesi gerektiğini ifade etmişlerdir. Ayrıca sosyal problemlerin kız öğrencilerde daha çok görüldüğünü belirtmişlerdir. Sosyal becerileri geliştirmek için öğrencilere sosyal paylaşımlarda bulunabilecekleri ortamlar yaratılması, öğrencilerin kendilerini ifade etmelerine olanak sağlanması gerektiğini vurgulamışlardır.Geleceğin sağlıklı toplumunu oluşturacak çocukların, sosyal beceriler ve olumlu gerekmektedir. İlkokul dönemi çocukların bu özellikleri kazanmaya en açık olduğu dönemdir. Bu dönemde öğretmenler çocukların model aldıkları en önemli figür haline gelirler. Bu nedenle öğrencilerde sosyal becerilerin geliştirilmesi, pekiştirilmesi ve bu becerilerin değişik ortamlarda uygulanmasının gerektiğinin vurgulandığı bu çalışmada öğrencilerde sosyal becerilerin geliştirilmesi konusunda öğretmenlere bazı tavsiyelerde de bulunulmuştur

The purpose of this study, which was designed in format of qualitative research, is to determine the impact of social problems in students to academic success on primary school teachers’ views. The data of the research were obtained by semi- structured interviews with 25 teachers who work in different educational institutions in Suşehri in Sivas in the term of Spring semester of 2012-2013 academic year and the data were discussed by descriptive and content analysis methods. According to the findings, teachers referred the concept of sociability with communication and friendship concepts. The teachers expressed that the academic success of the students, who had social problems, were low and these students had very little interest in lessons. Furthermore the teachers stated that these students had motivation problems. The teachers emphasized that family had a very important role in the development of social skills of the students and the families should be informed about these issues. Morever, the teachers stated that social problems were seen more in female students. The teachers emphasized that some environment, in which the students could have social interaction with others, should be created to develop the social skills of the students and also the students should be provided to express themselves. The children, who will compose the healthy society of the future, need to acquire social skills and positive character traits. Primary school is the most suitable period when the students gain these features. In this period the teachers become the most important figüre for the students who see them as the model. Therefore, in this study which emphasizes the development and reinforcement of the social skills of the students and the necessity to apply these skills in different environment, there are also some advice to teachers on the development of students' social skills
