Hume’un Adalet Kuramı

Abstract

Hume, ahlakın akılla değil de duygularla temellendirildiğini vurgulaması nedeniyle, anti rasyonalist ve bir ampirist olarak bilinir. Erdem duygusu ve iyilikseverliğimizin akıldan çok duygudaşlık duygusuna bağlı olduğu gibi; o, erdem ve doğruluğa ilişkin yargılarımızın aklımızdan çok duygudaşlık kapasitemize bağlı olduğuna inanır. Hume’un düşüncesinde, adalet doğal değil, aksine “yapay bir erdemdir”. Hume is seen as an empiricist and an anti-rationalist because of his em- phasis on sentiment as the basis of morality. He believes that judgments about virtue and rightness depend on our capacity for sympathy rather than on the form of reason, which in turn, being virtuous depends on feelings such as benevolence and sympathy rather than on reason. To Hume, justice is not a natural but an “artificial virtue”. Hume argues that justice arises from the “convention” among people. Since, the primary motive of justice is the consideration of the interest of others. In this way, Hume rejects psychological egoism in the account of justice. He places social utility at the centre of his explanations for the theory of justice. In this respect, Hume influenced utilitarian philosophers such as Bentham and Mill in the development of their theories.
