Roman Glass Vessels in Sivas Museum

Abstract

ÖZET Bu çalışmada, Sivas Arkeoloji Müzesi’nde bulunan Roma Dönemi’ne tarihli cam vazolar incelenmiştir. Sivas ve çevresi, Roma Dönemi’nde Kapadokya, Pontus ve Ermenistan eyatlerinin ortasında yer alıyordu. İmparatorluğa kısa bir süre dahil olan Ermenistan’ı saymazsak, Sivas bir anlamda Roma imparatorlu- ğunun en doğu sınırını teşkil etmektedir. Bu bakımdan, bu çevredeki kentler ve burada bulunan eserler büyük öneme sahiptir. Müzede, İ.S.1. yüzyıldan İ.S.6. yüzyıla kadar tarihli yaklaşık 80 kadar eser vardır. Bu kadar az eser 34 farklı grupla temsil edilmektedir. Bu durum, uygun iklim ve coğrafi konumundan do- layı Roma Dönemi’nde önemli bir yere sahip Sivas antik kentlerinin, lüks tüketim malı sayılan cama karşı olan zevk, ihtiyaç ve isteklerini göstermektedir.

ABSTRACT In this article, Roman Period glass vessels in Sivas Museum have been studied. Sivas and periphery of Sivas were the middle of the Cappadocia, Pontus and Armenia provices in Roman period. If we exclude Armenia, which remained for a short time under the Roman rule, Sivas was in the eastern border of Roman Empire. That’s why, ancient cities and artefacts around Sivas are rather important. In the Sivas Museum there are around 80 glass vessels dated from 1st century to 6th century AD. But these so few vessels are represented with 34 different forms. This situation shows the flavor, need and the demand for glass, which is considered as luxury consumer goods in the ancient cities of Sivas, which has an important place due to the ideal climatic characteristics and geographical position.
