The effect of voletile anaesthetic on the sister chromatid exchange in operation room personnel [Ameliyathane personelinde inhalasyon anesteziklerinin kardes kromatid degisimi uzerine etkisi]
Abstract
In this study, it was investigated that any mutagenic effect of anaesthetic agents like nitrous Oxide, isoflurane and sevoflurane on human DNA with use Sister Chromatid Exchange (SCE) test method. Sister Chromatid Exchange rates was investigated in blood samples with conventional sitogenetic methods for total fractures in methaphases. Study was carried out on 20 non-smoking operation room personnels that exposed isoflurane, sevoflurane and nitrous oxide 8 hours per day and at least 3 years, and on 20 non-smoking controls. The SCE rates were increased statistically significant in operating personnel as compared to non-smoking controls (p<0.05). It was concluded that of long term exposure to anaesthetic volatile agents like isoflurane, sevoflurane and nitrous oxide makes permanent effect on SCE rates.
