dc.description.abstractAim: This study was carried out to determine the effect of three different smoking cessation intervention for smoker pregnant women as experimentally. Method: Research sample consisted of 157 smoker pregnant women attended to prenatal care unit at a state hospital between 14 July-26 August 2008. Pregnant women assigned to three group as randomly and it was applied different intervention for smoking cessation to each group as follow; Group I: Brief education and counselling, telephone counselling twice, and booklet (a letter from fetus to his mother about influences of smoking in pregnancy, benefits of smoking cessation and coping ways with deprival symptoms). Group II: Brief education and counselling, telephone counselling twice. Group III: Brief education and counselling. After the intervention, all pregnant women were called in 28 th-32 th and 34 th-38 th pregnancy weeks and their smoking behaviour was evaluated. Data were analized by Chi-square test. Results: It was found that individual, obstetrics and smoking characterictics and addiction level of pregnant women at group I, II and III were similar (p>0.05). In the last evaluation made on 34 th-38 th pregnancy weeks, It was found that in Group I, 70.7% of pregnant women gave up smoking, in Group II, 48.9% and in Group III 41.9%. It was determined that rate of giving up smoking in Group I was significantly higher than the other two group (p<0.05). Conclusion: High cessation ratio in Group I indicate that the intervention combined the brief councelling, telephone councelling and booklet was more effective for smoking cessation.en_US
