dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this research is to determine the views of the teachers on the implementation and functioning of the elective courses at secondary school. For this purpose, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 teachers who were selected by simple unselected sampling method from the teachers who instructed the elective courses in Sivas. According to the results they were understood that elective courses were determined by parents' and students' opinions, when elective courses were determined students' interests and abilities were took into consideration. Parents and student were informed about the elective courses at the beginning of the term. The teachers thought that there were sufficient number of qualified teachers for elective courses, elective course hours and types were sufficient but there were not enough books and materials for these courses. Students had positive motivations for elective courses but they were more concerned with compulsory courses. The vast majority of teachers thought that elective courses had no benefits for them. Teacher stated that the most common problem in elective courses was the lack of technology-material and textbook. Teachers recommended the preparation of course books and the elimination of equipment deficiencies for these courses to be more effective. © Tüm Haklari Saklidir. | en_US |
