This publication presents the assessment studies of two important characteristics, limiting the utilization of the geological environment for various purposes, especially construction. The first is the character of the pre-quaternary bedrock, other is the rock workability. Character of the pre-quaternary bedrock and its depth is important primarily for the complex foundation engineering. They carry the greater load caused by the weight of the structure itself. Therefore, it is often necessary to carry the weight of the building to the pre-quaternary subsoil. However, particularly these are cases, when the quaternary base is not sufficiently disposed in the view of load. The second following characteristic is nature of the rock workability. This reflects the properties of foundation soils, especially in the relation to the diggability. The subject of the studied area was the area shown on a map sheet 15-44-0, situated in the northeast of the Czech Republic. From the viewpoint of the pre-quaternary bedrock was detected mainly alternating of cohesive and cohesionless soils with a depth above 10 m (77,6%). From a viewpoint of the rock workability dominated particularly dredged soils with lower classes of rock workability.en_US
