Öğe A retrospective assessment and comparison of the effectiveness of benzoyl peroxide; the combination of topical niacinamide, gallic acid, and lauric acid; and the combination of benzoyl peroxide and erythromycin in acne vulgaris(Wiley, 2020) Kozan, Ahmet; Guner, Rukiye Yasak; Akyol, MelihAcne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that mostly develops during adolescence and continues throughout adulthood. It affects the face, the main location of cosmetic appearance. Despite many developments in acne treatment, various combination therapies are needed to create the best option. Ninety patients were included in this study. We used the global acne grading system (GAGS) and the lesion counting and photographic standards that were used by Hayashi et al., to assess acne severity. The patients were randomly divided into three groups as group 1 (using only 5% BPO, twice a day), group 2 (using only the combination of 5% BPO + 3% erythromycin, twice a day), and group 3 (using only the combination of 4% niacinamide + 1% gallic acid + 1% lauric acid, twice a day). Thirty patients were included in each group. The scores were evaluated at weeks 0, 2, 4 and 8, and compared with each other. As a result of the study, all three treatment types were found to be effective. The combination of 4% niacinamide + 1% gallic acid + 1% lauric acid can be used as an alternative topical treatment for acne vulgaris to prevent resistance against topical antibiotics and the side effects of some other treatments.Öğe Double serum sampled glomerular filtration rate measurement with technetium-99m diethylenetriamine-penta acetate for evaluation of renal functions in patients with psoriasis vulgaris(Deri Zuhrevi Hastaliklar Dernegi, 2021) Guner, Rukiye Yasak; Hayta, Sibel Berksoy; Akyol, Melih; Hasbek, Zekiye; Ozcelik, Sedat; Timucin, MeryemBackground and Design: Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease believed to affect renal functions. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the most important indicator used to assess renal functions. The present study aims to measure the renal function of psoriasis patients via the technetium-99m diethylenetriamine pentaacetate (Tc-99m DTPA) method and compare the values obtained with those determined through indirect measurement methods, such as the modification of diet in renal disease (MDRD) and chronic kidney disease epidemiology collaboration (CKD-EPI), considering the effects of systemic treatments and comorbidities. Materials and Methods: Eighty-seven patients diagnosed with chronic plaque-type psoriasis vulgaris were included in this study. The patients' demographic characteristics, disease duration, psoriasis area and severity index score, drugs received for psoriasis treatment, comorbidities, and drugs received for comorbidity treatment were noted. Estimated GFRs were also calculated using the MDRD and CKD-EPI formulas. Results: Tc-99m DTPA values were affected only by age. As the patient age increased, a significant decrease in GFR measured with Tc-99m DTPA (r=0.289, p<0.001) was observed. Conclusion: Psoriasis, comorbidities, and nephrotoxic drugs used for treatment did not affect renal functions. GFR measurements were affected only by age.Öğe Relationship of interoceptive accuracy in acne vulgaris patients: A prospective, controlled study(Springer, 2024) Alagoz, Elif Nur; Tosun, Mustafa; Guner, Rukiye Yasak; Akyol, MelihAcne vulgaris (AV) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition predominantly observed during adolescence. Interoception accuracy (IAc) refers to the ability to perceive internal bodily states such as hunger and thirst. Since the brain and skin originate from the same embryological layer, the ectoderm, it is hypothesized that skin changes and disorders might affect individual perceptions. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between IAc and AV. This study included 94 AV patients and 94 sex- and age-matched healthy controls. The participants completed the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and heartbeat perception task to assess IAc. The severity of acne was assessed using the Global Acne Grading System (GAGS). Acne patients had lower IAc scores than controls did (P = 0.026). Severe depression or anxiety symptoms were associated with lower IAc scores (P = 0.027, P = 0.046). Acne severity did not significantly affect IAc scores. There was a weak negative connection between the DLQI score and IAc (r = -0.208, P = 0.022), suggesting that lower quality of life is correlated with reduced IAc. Gender significantly influenced IAc. As a result, individuals with acne may have a reduced capacity to accurately perceive internal bodily states, potentially impacting overall well-being. Enhancing interoception might positively contribute to AV treatment and management.Öğe Research on Hotair and 7SL-RNA Gene Expression Levels in Psoriasis Vulgaris(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2021) Yazici, Seyma; Guner, Rukiye Yasak; Akyol, Melih; Bayyurt, Elif Burcu Tuzemen; Arslan, SerdalBackgrounds: Mutation of protein-coding genes and non-coding genes is a factor in psoriasis etiology. Non-coding RNA (ncRNA), which does not have protein-coding capacity, is available in the human genome. HOTAIR (HOX Antisense Intergenic RNA) and 7SL-RNA are known as ncRNA. They may play a role in psoriasis pathogenesis. Aims: In our study, we aimed to investigate the level of HOTAIR and 7SL-RNA gene expression in the lesional and perilesional healthy skin of psoriasis patients. Methods: Total RNA isolation from the skin samples was achieved by modifying the RNeasy Mini Kit (Qiagen, Cat No: 74104) protocol. Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) phase was performed in accordance with the protocol of the relevant brand (WizPure qPCR). Results: 7SL-RNA gene expression decreased in the skin with psoriatic lesions (FC: 0.01; p: 0.028), and this decrease was statistically significant. HOTAIR gene expression decreased (FC: 0.92; p: 0.218), but this decrease was not statistically significant. Conclusions: lncRNAs may play a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis disease.Öğe Telangiectasia macularis multiplex acquisita: A new entity and literature review(Galenos Publ House, 2025) Zekey, Emre; Tosun, Mustafa; Guner, Rukiye Yasak; Akyol, Melih; Kaya, SeyhmusTelangiectasia macularis multiplex acquisita (TMMA) is a very rare entity that has been reported in the Asian population to date. Associations with hepatitis infection and several other systemic diseases have been reported. Its association with hepatitis C infection is a newly designated entity. Here, a 42-year-old Turkish patient with hepatitis C infection who was diagnosed with TMMA is presented, and a literature review is given. Recognition of the characteristic presentation of this rare disease will facilitate the clinician's diagnosis and approach.
