Determination of Benthic Macroinvertebrate Fauna and Some Physicochemical Properties of Kanak Dam Lake (Sarkisla-Sivas)
(İstanbul University Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, 2021) Divrik, Menekşe Taş; Laçin, Meliha Öz; Kalkan, Kadir; Yurto?lu, Sinan
This paper aims to identify the benthic macroinvertebrate fauna and some physicochemical characteristics of Kanak Dam Lake located in Sarkisla, Sivas. For this, water and sediment samples were taken from 4 stations of the lake between August 2016 to July 2017 at monthly intervals, and a detailed physicochemical analysis was carried out on these samples. While the identification of benthic macroinvertebrates was made to the lowest possible taxa (species, genus or families), some physicochemical characteristics of the lake water such as temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, SO4, PO4, NO3-N, NO2-N, Mg, Ca, total hardness, salinity and Cl levels were determined using various titrimetric and spectrophotometric methods. As a result, a total of 30 taxa were identified and were classified as Oligochaeta, Chironomidae, Gastropoda and other Insecta (Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera, Hemiptera (adult), Odonata, Plecoptera and larval Coleoptera). All the identified taxa were determined as the first records for the lake. While the temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, chloride and sulfate levels were found to have the first class quality according to Turkey's water control regulations the NO3-N and NO2-N levels in the lake were found to have the second and third class water quality, respectively. The total hardness of the lake water was found to be at lighthard water quality The Shannon Weiner diversity index for macrobenthic fauna of the dam lake was found to be 0.64 on average. The sampling stations and months were evaluated also statistically by using the Bray-Curtis Cluster Index in terms of the distribution of the benthic macroinvertebrates and physicochemical parameters. © 2021 The Author(s).

The Investigation of Cryptosporidium spp. Prevalence in Cattle and Farmers by ELISA
(KAFKAS UNIV, VETERINER FAKULTESI DERGISI, 2012) Ozcelik, Semra; Poyraz, Omer; Kalkan, Kadir; Malatyali, Erdogan; Degerli, Serpil
Cryptosporidium spp. is an important cause of enteritis for animals and humans. As the parasite has zoonotic potential, it is aimed to investigate the prevalence in people who had close contact with livestock, in control group who lived in Centrum and cattle. Fecal samples collected from 50 farmers who lived in different villages of Sivas and 65 people to be control group lived in Sivas Center without gastrointestinal discomfort and 200 cattle and calf breeding different county during the period from September 2009 to September 2010. Fecal samples were stored in 10% formalin until examination and then studied with Cryptosporidium Stool Antigen Microwell ELISA Kit. As a result, positive rate were found 4(6.2%) in control group and 9(18%) in study group, (chi(2)=3.95, P<0.05). On the other hand, 15 (7.5%) of the cattle and calve samples gave positive reaction with Cryptosporidium spp. ELISA.

[Seroprevalence of babesiosis in cattle in Sivas].
(2010) Kalkan, Kadir; Ozçelik, Semra; Malatyali, Erdo?an
The purpose of this study was the investigation of the seroprevalence of babesiosis in cattle in the Sivas region. Serum samples were collected from a total of 240 cattle in the Sivas region. Serum antibodies against Babesia bigemina and Babesia bovis for cattle were investigated by the indirect fluorescence antibody test (IFAT). In addition, blood smears taken from the ear veins of cattle were prepared and examined under microscope. Two hundred and forty cattle from 25 different localities were examined during the period from March-June 2008. During the microscopic examination of 240 blood smears, Babesia sp. were detected in 14 (5.83%) cattle in Sivas region. These cattle also had an antibody reaction to Babesia bigemina or Babesia bovis. Anti-Babesia IgG antibodies were obtained in 32 (13.3%), of 240 cattle for Babesia bovis and in 45 (37.5%), of 120 cattle for Babesia bigemina in Sivas region. Babesiosis is a common disease in cattle in Sivas province.
