Öğe A case of brain abscess due to Entamoeba species, Eikenella corrodens and Prevotella species(INFORMA HEALTHCARE, 2008) Ozum, U.; Karadag, Oe.; Egilmez, R.; Engin, A.; Oztoprak, I.; Ozcelik, S.We report a case of brain abscess due to multiple pathogens including Entamoeba species, Eikenella corrodens and Prevotella species. Patient had odontogenic infection without any site of amoebic infestation. Complete recovery was achieved with surgical treatment and antimicrobial therapy.Öğe A case with Listeria meningitis during administration of mycophenolate mofetil for pemphigus vulgaris(BLACKWELL PUBLISHING, 2007) Akyol, M.; Ozcelik, S.; Engin, A.; Ahin, G. Ozel…Öğe Metronidazole resistance in Trichomonas vaginalis determined by molecular and conventional methods(MALAYSIAN SOC PARASITOLOGY TROPICAL MEDICINE, 2018) Ozcelik, S.; Ozpinar, N.; Karakus, S.; Akyildiz, F.; Karakaya, O.Trichomonas vaginalis (T. vaginalis) is a protozoan parasite that infects the urogenital tract of both women and men worldwide. Trichomoniasis can cause serious symptoms if untreated. Metronidazole is the drug of choice for the treatment of trichomoniasis. In recent years metronidazole-resistant T. vaginalis has often been mentioned in clinical isolates. The aim of this study was to determine the conventional and molecular methods to determine metronidazole-resistant T. vaginalis, which is seen commonly and to discuss the possible reasons for this. Samples taken from patients diagnosed with T. vaginalis from the gynaecology and obstetrics clinic between April 2015 and June 2016 were evaluated for metronidazole-resistance using molecular and conventional methods. A total of 170 patients were examined and T. vaginalis was determined in 6 (3.5%) patients. Metronidazole resistance was determined in 2 (33.3%) of the 6 clinical isolates as a result of the molecular and conventional tests applied. Metronidazole resistance was determined using nitroreductase genes ntr4(Tv) and ntr6(Tv). These findings suggest that metronidazole-resistance T. vaginalis strains can be determined in laboratory samples of cases with trichomoniasis. This may be an important underlying factor in the unsuccessful management of recurrent cases seen in routine gynecological practice.Öğe Optimized synthesis and characterization of La(OH)3 and LaB6 nanostructures for enhanced NIR optical filters(Iop Publishing Ltd, 2024) Bulbul, B. G.; Toprak, B. C.; Sayrac, M.; Ozen, Y.; Ozcelik, S.The present study describes a method for synthesizing nanostructured La(OH)3 and LaB6 materials with efficient field emission properties using the spin coating technique. The study was motivated by the significant demand for the optical properties of LaB6 with efficient field emission properties using the spin coating technique in the near-infrared (NIR) region. The optimization of the LaB6 synthesis process for economic and reproducible results is highlighted, showcasing a systematic approach starting from La(OH)(3 )formation through chemical mixing and high-temperature heating, followed by boron incorporation. The systematic methodology includes forming La(OH)(3) through chemical mixing and high-temperature heating, followed by combining it with boron to achieve the LaB6 structure. Characterization methods such as XRD, FTIR, SEM, AFM, and SIMS validated the successful synthesis and uniformity of the materials. Optical analyses showed increased visible transmittance and reduced infrared transmittance for the LaB6 thin film. Optical analyses showed increased visible transmittance and decreased infrared transmittance in the 110 nm thick LaB6 film, with an absorption valley at 1000 nm. SEM images revealed microstructural features and AFM analysis indicated a homogeneous distribution of La and B atoms with an RMS value of 0.87 nm. SIMS analysis confirmed uniform atomic distribution throughout the film thickness. The optimized recipes contribute to the efficiency and controllability of the synthesis process. The presented results provide valuable insights into material synthesis methodologies and serve as a crucial reference for utilizing LaB6 materials in infrared devices.Öğe The Retrospective Annual Surgical Incidence of Cystic Echinococcosis in Sivas, Turkey(WILEY-BLACKWELL PUBLISHING, INC, 2009) Gonlugur, U.; Ozcelik, S.; Gonlugur, T. E.; Arici, S.; Celiksoz, A.; Elagoz, S.; Cevit, R.Cystic echinococcosis is an important public health problem in our region. The aim of this study was to assess the surgical incidence of cystic echinococcosis in Sivas, Turkey. A retrospective follow-up study was carried out between 1997 and 2004. The mean age of 124 men (39.2%) and 192 women was 36.4 years. The liver was the primary site of cyst development (76.6%), followed by the lungs (19.9%), the spleen (5.4%), the kidneys (3.5%) and the peritoneal cavity (3.2%). Mean annual surgical incidence was 6.4 per 100 000 inhabitants for a 7-year period. The most common site of recurrence was the liver. Hepatic cysts were more frequently infected than pulmonary cysts (P < 0.05). In those patients with an infected cyst, the mean circulating eosinophil level was significantly lower than in those without. Rupture and infection were more common in men (P < 0.01). In conclusion, serious structural, legislative, surveillance, prevention and control measures for echinooccus should be undertaken in our region.
