GENE EXPRESSION LEVELS IN BRONCHIAL ASTHMA PATIENTS OF DUHOK POPULATION IN IRAQ
(Parlar Scientific Publications (P S P), 2021) Issa, Hamdia Yousif; Al-Habib, Omar A. M.; Dastan, Sevgi Durna; Ramadhan, Ali A.; Sevindik, Mustafa; Selamoglu, Zeliha
Bronchitis, asthma, allergy and bronchial asthma diseases are very common in these years. These diseases, which have increased with the age in the past, are nowadays frequently seen from very early ages and even from infancy. In addition. the frequency of these diseases varies according to different populations. It is suggested that environmental factors, genotypic structure of individuals have special effects or additive effects in these diseases which are also associated with the immune system not working effectively. The aim of our study is to determine the expression levels in some genes that are suggested to be related to these diseases in blood samples between the patient and control groups. In this study, gene expression values performed with the RT-PCR analysis are compared between brochititis-asthma patient group and control group by using 16 gene region. According to RTPCR gene expression analysis, individuals with bronchial-asthma have had remarkable increases or decreases in some gene regions. Some of these changes were found statistically significant.

Inflammatory protein levels in asthmatic bronchitis: A study in the Duhok population, Iraq
(Elsevier Science Inc, 2025) Al-Habib, Omar A. M.; Issa, Hamdia Yousif; Dastan, Taner; Dastan, Sevgi Durna; Ramadhan, Ali A.; Selamoglu, Zeliha
Objectives: This study aims to determine the levels of TNF-alpha, IGF-1, IL-6, and IL-10 protein in blood samples and their potential link to bronchitis-asthma diseases in the Iraq Duhok population, highlighting the prevalence of these long-term inflammatory diseases. Methods: Sixty blood samples were used and separated into patients (n = 43) and control (n = 17) groups. Serum samples were separated for each individual. Elisa method was used in terms of 4 different proteins investigated in blood samples with the manufacturer's instruction brand kits. Results: This study evaluated TNF-alpha, IGF-1, IL-6, and IL-10 protein levels in blood samples from asthmatic bronchitis patients in Duhok. Although these levels were elevated compared to controls, the differences were not statistically significant. Conclusion: The differences thought to be related to the bronchitis-asthma diseases could not be demonstrated between the patient and control groups in Iraq Duhok population. Future research should explore larger sample sizes and stratified patient groups to identify potential biomarkers.

Phylogenetic analysis of Prunus genus using nuclear and chloroplast gene markers as a bioorganic structure profiling
(Elsevier, 2023) Abdulrahman, Shamiran Salih; Dastan, Sevgi Durna; Shahbaz, Saleem Esmael; Selamoglu, Zeliha
Prunus species are known as model species for the family Rosaceae and other woody plants with their small genome size and relatively small life cycle as woody plants. Also Prunus species are economically important plants in the subfamily Amygdaloideae of the Rosaceae have a controversial taxonomic history due to the lack of a phylogenetic framework. Therefore, mapping, classification, determination the ge-netic structure and characterization of genes as a spesific chemical and fuctional units of nucleic acids and making phylogenetic analysis in these species have important implications. The aim of this study to find any gene markers as a bioorganic - chemical structure profiling to determine genetic diversity of dif-ferent Prunus species from Iraq by using nuclear and chloroplast DNA markers to evaluate the phylogeny of Prunus. A total of 12 species Prunus subgenus amygdalus were collected from Iraq. Ten gene region markers on both nuclear DNA and chloroplast DNA have been tested to evaluate the genetic variation at their molecular levels by using multiplex PCR with 10 gene region primers and sequence analysis for matK. The name of the gene regions using in this study are ITS (ITS1 + ITS2 + 5.8S coding region), rbcL, matK, rpl16, trnL-trnF, atpB-rbcL, rp136-infA-rps8, trnK-rps16, pbsM-trnD, psbA-trnH. As a result, five dif-ferent phylogenetic trees were obtained from the gene sequences of the samples and the base sequences were close to each other. The estimated value of the shape parameter for the discrete Gamma Distribu-tion is 0.05. The nucleotide frequencies are A = 29.41%, T/U = 37.37%, C = 17.52%, and G = 15.67%. The nucleotide diversity of the sequence was low with the 0.004113 value. There were 14 different informa-tive base site between the samples. The polymorphism observed was less in agreement with higher level of conservation of the gene regions. The Prunus species from Iraq region were grouped on two closed clusters on the phylogenetic trees.(c) 2023 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

ROLE OF PROPOLIS ON OXIDATIVE STRESS IN VARIOUS TISSUES OF FISH
(PARLAR SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS (P S P), 2014) Aldemir, Osman Selcuk; Selamoglu, Zeliha; Gulhan, Mehmet Fuat; Cakir, Oguz; Ozdemir, Ilknur; Dastan, Sevgi Durna; Dogan, Husnu
The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of propolis on biochemical parameters in tissues of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) exposed to cypermethrin. Cypermethrin is a potential toxic pollutant that directly threats the aquatic ecosystems and environment. Sublethal cypermethrin concentration of 0.0082 ppm was applied to the fish for 96 h. Propolis is a natural product collected from plants by honey bees. Its polyphenolic components, caffeic acid derivatives and flavonoids in particular, are matter of interest because of their strong antioxidant properties. Therapeutic concentration of propolis has been determined as 10 ppm in a previous study. Herein, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and catalase (CAT) activities were determined in spleen and heart tissues of rainbow trouts. Results showed that CAT activities and MDA levels increased (P <= 0.001) in tissues of fish exposed to cypermethrin compared to control group. CAT activities and MDA levels in the tissues of fish decreased in cypermethrin+propolis group (P <= 0.001) compared to cypermethrin group. Propolis (10 ppm) on the tissues of the rainbow trout showed significant therapeutic effects. Propolis may serve as an antitoxic agent against pesticide toxicity to aquatic animals.
