Öğe A SOCIO CULTURAL REFLECTION OF CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE: STIGMA(Ege Üniversitesi, 2012) Tel, Hatice; Tel, HavvaChronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD is a physical disease with chronic and progressive characteristics and affects the individuals psycho-socially and socio-culturally. One of the important socio-cultural effects of COPD is stigma. Stigma -literally meaning “scar”, “mark”, “taint”, “symbol”, “disgrace”- is a term that recognizes the individuals with their distinguishing marks and distinct features. Stigma includes the behaviors and attitudes of the society; from taking a position against some patient groups due to prejudices to excluding them out of the society. Stigma has negative effects on person, family, society and members of the health team. Stigma, affecting self concept and self respect of the individual negatively, decreases their self respect. Individuals with decreased self respect feel insignificant and think as if they were useless. Emotional problems like anxiety and depression may occur with the decreased self respect. Some of the medicines used for symptoms –such as coughing, mucus and dyspnea- and for the treatments of COPD causes some changes on the physical image of the patients and thus causes them to experience stigma. In this review, the aim is to investigate stigma experienced in COPD and fight against stigma through literature support and to draw the attention of health care personnel to this issueÖğe Aerobic exercise for individuals with depression(Kare Publ, 2023) Bingol, Tuelay Yilmaz; Tel, HavvaObjectives: This study is an intervention study conducted to determine the effect of aerobic exercise program on the quality of life, self-esteem, and depression level of individuals diagnosed with depression. Methods: The sample of the study consisted of a total of 60 patients, 30 of whom were in the study group, 30 of whom were in the comparison group, followed up with a diagnosis of depression in the psychiatry outpatient clinic. In order to cope with occupational stress, nurses need to employ flexible adjustment mechanisms that allow them the power to process their experiences. Failure of efficient stress management causes burnout, and burnout is closely related to powerlessness. It is therefore believed that the occurrence of burnout can be reduced by means of psychological empowerment of nurses. Our study was conducted to determine the effect of a psychodrama-based psychological empowerment program on (1) the perception of empowerment and (2) the levels of burnout in oncology nurses. Method: The sample was made up of 82 oncology nurses (38 nurses in the study group and 44 in the control/comparison group). Study data were collected using the Psychological Empowerment Scale, the Nurse Work Empowerment Scale, and Maslach's Burnout Inventory. The study group attended a psychodrama-based psychological empowerment program (2 hours, 1 day a week, for 10 weeks). For data assessment, we employed an independent t test and one-way analysis of variance. Results: The psychological empowerment and workplace empowerment scores of nurses in the study group increased and their burnout scores decreased following attendance in the psychodrama-based psychological empowerment program. Significance of results: We found that the psychodrama-based psychological empowerment program increased psychological empowerment and enhanced perception of workplace empowerment while decreasing levels of burnout in oncology nurses. The program is recommended and should allow oncology nurses to benefit from their personal experiences and thus increase self-empowerment, to enhance their perception of empowerment, and to prevent burnout.Öğe The Effect of Music on Auditory Hallucination and Quality of Life in Schizophrenic Patients: A Randomised Controlled Trial(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC, 2019) Pinar, Sukran Ertekin; Tel, HavvaThe study was conducted to determine the effects of music on auditory hallucination and quality of life in schizophrenic patients.
