Development and the Validity and Reliability Study of the Birth Health Belief Scale
(Marmara Univ, Inst Health Sciences, 2023) Yesildag, Birnur; Golbasi, Zehra
Objective: This study aims to develop a measurement tool based on the Health Belief Model to assess pregnant women's attitudes and beliefs about the mode of delivery. Methods: A 65-item draft scale consisting of five sub-scales was used for the development of the Birth Health Belief Scale (BHBS). The draft scale was administered to 336 pregnant women. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. Analyses included Kendall's W test, Cronbach's alpha, Kaiser Meyer Olkin (KMO) Test, Bartlett's Test, and Exploratory Factor analysis (Principal component analysis). Results: Analysis results showed that the 5-point Likert scale consisted of 34 items and five factors. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated as 0.974. Item analysis results revealed that the item-total and item-remainder correlations were significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: The Birth Health Belief Scale was determined to be a valid and reliable measurement tool.

The Effect of Urinary Incontinence on Sexual Quality of Life in Women with Chronic Physical Diseases
(SPRINGER, 2016) Yilmaz, Feride Taskin; Kumsar, Azime Karakoc; Demirel, Gulbahtiyar; Yesildag, Birnur
This study was conducted in order to determine the effect of the presence of urinary incontinence on sexual quality of life in women diagnosed with chronic physical diseases. The sample of the cross sectional and comparative study consisted of 67.5 % (n = 191) female inpatients with and 32.5 % (n = 92) female inpatients without urinary incontinence complaints being treated for chronic physical diseases in the internal diseases clinic of a public hospital. Data was collected using the patient identification form, the International Incontinence Consultation Questionnaire-Short Form and the Sexual Quality of Life Scale for Women. The average score that women with urinary incontinence took from the sexual quality of life scale (61.50 +/- 19.10) was lower than the average score of women without urinary incontinence (77.19 +/- 18.75) (p < 0.01). There was a negative meaningful relationship between the frequency, amount, and effect of urinary incontinence and sexual quality of life (p < 0.05). The sexual quality of life of women who were 50 years of age and above, who had respiratory system diseases, had a duration of illness between 6 and 10 years, perceived their general health as bad, parity and gave normal birth, were in their menopausal period, and had hysterectomies was significantly lower (p < 0.05). As a result, in women with chronic physical diseases and urinary incontinence, the sexual quality of life is affected in a worse level compared to those who do not have urinary incontinence.

Effects of the web-based birth preparation programme and motivational interviews on primigravida women: Randomized-controlled study
(Wiley, 2024) Yesildag, Birnur; Golbasi, Zehra
AimThis study aimed to identify the effects of a web-based birth preparation programme based on the Health Belief Model and supported by motivational interviews on fear of childbirth, self-efficacy and the labour process in primigravida women.MethodsThe study was conducted in a single-blind, randomized controlled design with 73 pregnant women. The Birth Health Belief Scale, the Wijma Delivery Expectation/Experience Questionnaire A-B, the Childbirth Self-efficacy Scale and the Labour Process Assessment forms were used to collect data. Five sessions of motivational interviews were held with the pregnant women in the experimental group, while those in the control group were administered placebo education.ResultsFear of birth was lower, and the birth self-efficacy total score was higher in the experimental group. None of the groups indicated significant differences in terms of their mode of delivery.ConclusionHealth Belief Model-based web-based birth preparation programme and motivational interviews were found to reduce the fear of birth, increase self-efficacy and positively affect the birth process in primigravida women. What is already known about this topic?Caesarean delivery is an important health problem that is common all over the world.Fear of childbirth and low self-efficacy are two important reasons for the increase in the frequency of caesarean section rates.Nurses can make important contributions to the prevention of optional caesarean birth by providing women with health education. What this paper adds? The web-based birth preparation programme based on the Health Belief Model and motivational interview decreased fear of birth and improved attitudes and behaviours towards vaginal delivery by increasing health beliefs and birth self-efficacy.The implications of this paper:This study brings a new perspective, indicating that a birth preparation programme based on the Health Belief Model and supported by motivational interviews with primigravida women is an effective method of preventing elective caesarean delivery. It is recommended that nurses use web-based training tools and conduct cognitive behavioural strategies in antenatal classes.

Effects of traditional practices in the postpartum period on postpartum depression
(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC, 2018) Demirel, Gulbahtiyar; Egri, Gamze; Yesildag, Birnur; Doganer, Adem
In this descriptive study, our aim was to assess the effects of traditional practices on postpartum depression. The participants were 461 Muslim mothers with infants aged between 2 weeks and 12 months, without a history of postpartum depression or other psychiatric problems and capable of communicating fluently. The participants were volunteers and were recruited from family health centers in urban Turkey between January 15 and April 15, 2015. Data were collected in a single face-to-face interview with each participant. Mothers in the research locality frequently have recourse to traditional practices in the postpartum period and the incidence of postpartum depression appears to be lower amongst those who use such practices.

(Assoc Medica Brasileira, 2025) Altunbas, Nermin; Yesildag, Birnur
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this studywas to determine the role of the perception of spousal support in sexual satisfaction and sexual quality of life of primigravidas. METHODS: This study used a descriptive and correlational design and consisted of 412 primigravidas. The target population of the studywas pregnant women who presented to an obstetrics and gynecology clinic of a hospital located in a province on the Anatolian side of Turkey. Data were collected byface-to-face interviews usingthe Personal Information Form, Perception of Spousal Support in Pregnancy Scale, New Sexual Satisfaction Scale, and Sexual Quality of Life Scale-Female between December 05, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The study included primigravida women, being above the age of 18 years, being in the last trimester of pregnancy, being married and living with their spouses, being literate, pregnant women and their spouses not having been previously diagnosed with sexual dysfunction, not having become pregnant with infertility treatment, and not diagnosed with a high-risk pregnancy... The data obtained from the study were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 27.0 program. Data analysis included numbers, percentage distributions, interquartile range, Pearson correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis. Statistical significance was accepted at p<0.05. RESULTS: A good level of positive correlation was found between the Perception of Spousal Support in Pregnancy Scale and New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (r=0.972; p<0.001) mean scores, between the Perception of Spousal Support in Pregnancy Scale and Sexual Quality of Life Scale-Female (r=0.967; p<0.001) mean scores, and between the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale and Sexual Quality of Life Scale-Female (r=0.947; p<0.001) mean scores of primigravida women. The perception of spousal support was found to explain 97% of sexual quality of life and sexual satisfaction during pregnancy (F=6628.666; R-2=0.970). CONCLUSION: The increase in the perception of spousal support during pregnancy also increases primigravida women's sexual satisfaction and sexual quality of life.
