Distribution of Geography Questions in the Geography ÖABT (Teacher Field Knowledge Test) Examination between 2019-2023 according to Subject and Sub-Subjects

This research was conducted by ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center) to determine the distribution of geography field questions asked in the Geography Teacher Education Field Knowledge Test exams held between 2019-2023 according to their subjects and sub-subjects. The study was conducted with document analysis method in qualitative research design. The material of the study consists of 311 questions from geography subjects in the Geography Teaching ÖABT exams between 2019-2023 and these questions were accessed from ÖSYM archive. When analyzed according to the percentage distribution of the subjects and sub-subjects of Geography field questions; 8.7% (27 questions) of the questions were asked within the scope of General Geography; 39.5% (123 questions) within the scope of Physical Geography; 36% (112 questions) within the scope of Human and Economic Geography; 5.1% (16 questions) within the scope of Political Geography and 10.6% (33 questions) within the scope of Geography of Countries and Continents. The fact that there is a disproportion in the distribution of geography field questions according to the subjects and that there are no questions asked in some subjects reduces the reliability and validity, which are the main features sought in measurement tools, as it reduces the content validity. In this context, it is recommended that the field questions should be based on the weights of the geography subjects in the Geography Teaching undergraduate program.

Bu araştırma ÖSYM (Öğrenci Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi) tarafından 2019-2023 yılları arasında gerçekleştirilen Coğrafya Öğretmenliği Alan Bilgisi Testi sınavlarında sorulan coğrafya alan sorularının konu ve alt konularına göre dağılımlarını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma nitel araştırma deseninde doküman incelemesi yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın materyalini 2019-2023 yılları arasındaki Coğrafya Öğretmenliği ÖABT sınavlarında coğrafya konularından 311 soru oluşturmaktadır ve bu sorulara ÖSYM arşivinden ulaşılmıştır. Coğrafya alan sorularının konu ve alt konularının yüzdelik dağılışlarına göre incelendiğinde; soruların %8.7’si (27 soru) Genel Coğrafya kapsamında; %39.5’i (123 soru) Fiziki Coğrafya kapsamında; %36’sı (112 soru) Beşeri ve Ekonomik Coğrafya kapsamında; %5.1’i (16 soru) Siyasi Coğrafya kapsamında ve %10.6’sı (33 soru) Ülkeler ve Kıtalar Coğrafyası kapsamında sorulduğu görülmektedir. Coğrafya alan soruların konulara göre dağılımında orantısızlık olması ve bazı konularda hiç soru sorulmamış olması kapsam geçerliliğini düşürmesinden dolayı ölçme araçlarında temel aranan özelliklerden güvenirliliği ve geçerliliği düşürmesi söz konusudur. Bu bağlamda alan sorularının Coğrafya Öğretmenliği lisans programında yer alan coğrafya konularının ağırlıklarına göre yapılması önerilmektedir.
