Massive ovarian edema is a rare cause of ovarian enlargement in young women. We report a case in a 20-year-old woman with unilateral edema associated with the ultrasound appearance of polycystic ovary disease. Arterial and venous blood flow in the pedicle was observed with color and pulsed wave Doppler examination. Conservative management was successful. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd.
