Epilepsili hastaların yaşam kalitesinin QOLIE-89 (Epilepside yaşam kalitesi ölçeği) ile değerlendirilmesi
Abstract
Objectives: To develop a Turkish version of the Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory (QOLIE-89) and to examine the quality of life of epileptic patients and the factors affecting thereof. Patients and Methods: The Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory was administered to 130 adult epileptic otherwise healthy patients (58 females, 72 males; mean age 30.6+13.5 years) who were examined in outpatient settings throughout a year. Results: The mean score for the quality of life of epileptic patients was found to be low (41.19+ 22.65). The results showed that American and Norwegian epileptic patients had a better quality of life than that of Turkish patients. It was found that patients who had had epilepsy for a long time, who had seizures at irregular periods, and who experienced more one seizure a month led a low quality of life. The type of seizure did not affect the quality of life. Conclusion: This test-retest reliability study sug-gests that QOLIE-89 can be applied to adult epileptic patients in Turkey. Utilization of QOLIE-89 in the rehabilitation programs of epileptic patients may play a positive role in enhancing the quality of life of epileptic patients.
