Neoliberal Ekonomik Düzenin Hegemonik Erkeklik Üzerindeki Etkisi

Abstract

21.yüzyılda hâlâ tartışılmaya devam eden toplumsal cinsiyet kavramı ve eşitsizlikleri üzerine birçok çalışma mevcuttur. Toplumsal cinsiyet ilişkilerini, içinde bulunduğumuz dönemi anlamadan yorumlamak bizlere fazla fayda sağlamamaktadır. Bu sebeple, bu çalışmada toplumsal cinsiyet ilişkilerinde de etkili olan, hayatlarımızın tüm alanını değiştiren neoliberalizm çerçevesinde incelenecektir. Neoliberalizm, yaşadığımız dünyayı etkisi altına almayı başaran bir doktrin olarak 1980’li yıllardan itibaren, tüm toplumsal kurumları ve kültürleri değiştirmiştir. “Özgürlük” ve “bireysellik”e yaptığı atıflarla, toplumsal hayatları dönüştürürken, bireysel hayatlarımızı da derinden etkilemiştir. Yaşadığımız dönemi yansıtan neoliberalizm, toplumsal cinsiyet ilişkilerini; hegemonik erkeklik, diğer erkeklik ve kadınlık durumlarını da etkisi altına alarak dönüştürmektedir. Modern toplumla birlikte, artık cinsiyet rol ve ilişkilerini anlatırken kullandığımız kavramlar her “erkeklik” ve “kadınlık”ı temsil etmemeye başlamıştır. Bunun sebebini neoliberalizmin hayatlarımızı toplumsal ve bireysel olarak etkilemesinde aramaktayız. Bu konu üzerinde çalışan R.W. Connell, “hegemonik erkeklik” kavramı ile mevzunun derinliğine dikkat çekmeyi başarmıştır. R.W. Connell tarafından kavramsallaştırılan hegemonik erkeklik, Gramcsi’nin hegemonya kavramından esinlenerek oluşturulmuştur. Bu kavram, toplumsal cinsiyet ilişkilerini ve rollerini tek bir kadınlık ve erkeklik çerçevesinde incelemenin doğru olmadığını; daha ayrıntılı ve karmaşık ilişkilerin olduğu gerçeğini gözler önüne sermektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı toplumsal cinsiyet ilişkilerini, “hegemonik erkeklik” ekseninde incelemek; kadınlık ve erkeklik rollerinin, günümüzü şekillendiren neoliberalizmin toplumsal ilişkilerde yaşattığı değişimlere değinmektir. Bugünü anlayabilmek adına, bugünü anlatan bu iki önemli kavramı irdelemek ve birbirleriyle ilişkisini analiz etmek önemlidir. Bu çalışma üç ana bölümden oluşmaktadır. İlk bölümde, toplumsal cinsiyet ve hegemonik erkeklik kavramına kadar ilerleyen tarihsel süreç içerisindeki ataerki öncesi toplumsal yaşam, ataerkil dönem ve kapitalizmle birlikte değişen toplumsal ilişkiler çerçevesinde kadınlık ve erkeklik rolleri, toplumsal cinsiyet ve sonrasında kavramsallaştırılan erkeklik ve hegemonik erkeklik kavramları irdelenecektir. İkincibölümde ise hegemonik erkeklik ile ilişkilendirilecek olan neoliberalizmin tarihsel süreçte ortaya çıkışı, ilerleyişi ve toplumsal hayatları ve kültürü ne şekilde etkilediği incelenecektir. Üçüncü bölümde ise neoliberalizm çerçevesinde değiştiğini iddia ettiğimizi aile, kadınlık ve erkeklik ilişkilerini analiz ederek, neoliberalizmin bu üç önemli alana etkisi olup olmadığı ve eğer etkiliyorsa, bu etkilerin ne yönde olduğu analiz edilecektir. Sonuç bölümünde ise; neoliberalizmin toplumsal cinsiyet ilişkilerini değiştirdiğine dair oluşan genel kanının doğruluğu tespit edilmiş olup, bu değişimin sonucunun olumlu olarak yansıdığı günümüz toplumsal ilişkilerinde gerçeğin hiç de göründüğü gibi olmadığı anlaşılmıştır. Değişen erkeklik ve kadınlık rol ve statülerinde bir iyileşmeden ziyade bir gerileme olduğu fakat günümüz neoliberal toplumun temel nitelikleri olan özgürlük, bireysellik ve girişimcilik söylemleriyle bu gerilemenin görünürlüğünün azaltıldığını görmekteyiz. Hegemonik erkeklik ve neoliberalizm arasındaki ilişki de ise, neoliberalizmin erkekliğin toplumsal konumunda büyük değişimlere yol açmıyor gibi görünse de esasında eskiden itibar ettiğimiz hegemonik erkeklik kalıbının neoliberalizmle değiştiği ve çeşitlendiği ifade edilmektedir.

There have been lots of studies about the concept of social gender and its inequalities that are still being discussed in the 21st century. Making a critisize about social gender relations without understanding the current period does not make something more valuable. Therefore, this study will be examined within the conceptual framework of neoliberalism, which is also effective in social gender relations and changes the whole field of our live. Neoliberalism has changed all social institutions and cultures since the 1980s as a theory that succeeded in influencing the world we live in. With its references to “freedom” and “individuality, it has influenced deeply our individual lives as well while transforming social lives. Neoliberalism which reflects the period we live in has been transforming the social gender relationships by influencing hegemonic masculinity, other masculinity and femininity conditions. With modern society, the concepts we use to describe gender roles and relationships no longer represent every masculinity and femininity. It is because of the reason that neoliberalism affects our lives socially and individually. Studying on that subject R.W. Connell, with the concept of hegemonic masculinity has succeded to draw attention to the depth of the issue. The hegemonic masculinity, conceptualized by R. W. Connell has been designed by inspiring Gramcsi's concept of hegemony.This concept implies that it is not right to examine social gender relations and roles within the framework of a single femininity and masculinity; It reveals the fact that there are more detailed and complex relationships. The aim of this study is to investigate social gender relations on the axis of hegemonic masculinity; to discuss the changes in the roles of femininity and masculinity in neoliberal society. It is important to examine these two important concepts and analyze their relationship to each other so that we could understand today. This study has three major parts. In the first part; The pre-patriarchal social life in the historical process going up to the concept of social gender and hegemonic ii masculinity, the roles of femininity and masculinity within the framework of changing social relations with the patriarchal period and capitalism, the concepts of masculinity and hegemonic masculinity conceptualized in social gender and afterwards will be examined. In the second part; the emergence of neoliberalism, which will be associated with hegemonic masculinity, its progress and its impact on social lives and culture will be examined. In the third part; the relationship between family, femininity and masculinity, which we claim to have changed within the framework of neoliberalism, and whether neoliberalism has an impact on these three important areas, and if so, what direction these effects will be analyzed. In the conclusion section; The general belief that neoliberalism has changed the social gender relations has been agreed to be correct, and it is understood that the reality is not what it seems to be in today's social relations where the result of this change is positively reflected. We see that changing masculinity and femininity are in a decline rather than in an improvement in their role and status, but the visibility of this decline is reduced with the discourses of freedom, individuality and entrepreneurship which are the basic characteristics of today's neoliberal society. As for the relationship between hegemonic masculinity and neoliberalism, although neoliberalism does not seem to lead to new changes in the social position of masculinity, it is stated that the pattern of hegemonic masculinity which we have previously respected has changed and diversified with neoliberalism indeed.
