Bizans Sanatında Doktor Azizler Ve Şifa

Abstract

Geç antik çağdan itibaren Bizanslıların toplum yaşamlarında azizler önemli bir role sahiptir. Günlük yaşamları da dahil olmak üzere hayatlarının her safhasında onların varlıklarını kabul etmişlerdir. Azizler, yaşamları boyunca Tanrı’ya hizmet etmişler ve inançları uğruna canlarını vermiş kutsal kişilerdir. Halk, azizlerin Tanrı ile bağlantı kurabilen saygıdeğer kişiler olduğunu düşünmüştür. Azizlerin hastaları iyileştirmeleri, insanları kötülüklerden korumaları, mucizeler gerçekleştirmeleri gibi güçlere sahip olmaları onları toplum içinde yüksek bir statüye taşımıştır. Çoğu aziz, hastaları mucizevi bir şekilde iyileştirmiştir. Ancak bu uygulamalar ilahi mucize olarak ele aldığımız, Tanrı’nın azizler aracılığı ile gerçekleştirdiği mucizelerdir. Bizans’ta bilimsel tıp çalışmalarından önce tıp eğitimi alarak insanları tedavileriyle iyileştiren doktor azizler ortaya çıkmıştır. İlkçağlardan Orta çağa kadar ki dönemde, gelişme gösteren tıp bilimi, halk inanışları, tedavi yöntemleri, hastalıklar, sağlık tanrıları, tedavi mekanları hakkında bilgiler sunulmuştur. Bu bilgiler ışığında doktor azizlerin ortaya çıkmasındaki en büyük etkenin Yunan ve Roma’da ki sağlık tanrıları olduğu belirlenmiştir. İnsanların bu inanışları Hıristiyanlık ile değişmiş; sağlık tanrıları yerini azizlere, tedavi mekanları olarak kullanılan asklepionlar da yerini kiliselere bırakmıştır. Bizans’ta şifa anlayışının inanç ve bilimle sentezlenerek hem ruha hem bedene hitap eden bir tutumu ortaya çıkardığı araştırma sonucunda belirlenmiştir. Bunun en başarılı uygulamalarını yansıtan kişiler de doktor azizlerdir. Onlar Hıristiyanlığı kabul etmiş ve tıp eğitimi alarak kendilerini hem Tanrı’ya hem insanlara adamışlardır. Diğer azizler gibi sadece mucizevi şifalar uygulamamışlardır. Onlar hem hastaların bedenlerini tedavi eden hem de onların ruhlarını iyileştiren, mucizevi tıbbın temsilcisi kabul edebileceğimiz kutsal hekimlerdir.

Since the late antique times, Byzantines have an important role in saints’ life. They also accept their existence in their everyday life. Saints are holy people who serve to God and give their lives for the sake of their faith. People think that Saints are respectable people who can connect with God. Saints’ powers such as healing people, protecting them from evil and performing miracles make them have an important position in society. Most saints, healed people in a miraculous way. But, when we consider this healing method as divine miracle, it is a miracle that is made by God with the help of saints. In Byzantine before scientific medicine studies, saints appeared who had a medicine education for healing people. During the period from early ages to Middle ages, some information about developing medical science, folk beliefs, treatment methods, diseases, health gods, treatment places were presented. With the help of these information, the most important factor for appearing of doctor saints were determined as health doctors in Greek and Rome. People’s these beliefs were changed with Christianity, the health gods have left their place in the saints, and the asclepiads used as treatment places have left their place in the churches. In Byzantium the understanding of healing has been synthesized with faith and science, and it has been determined as a research result which reveals an attitude that appeals to both the spirit and the body. Doctor saints are the most successful practices that reflect this. They accept the Christianity and they get the medicine education and they devote themselves both to God and people. They didn’t perform only miraculous healing like other saints. They are holy doctors who can treat both the bodies of patients and treat their souls as the representative of miraculous medicine.
