Purpose: To evaluate toxic effect of intraocular acetylcholine and carbachol in intraocular tissues histopathologically. Materials and Methods: Totally 48 female albino rats divided into 6 groups. First group was given intravitreal 1% acetylcholine, second group was given 1% acetylcholine in anterior chamber, third group was given intravitreal 0.01% carbachol, fourth group was given 0.01% carbachol in anterior chamber, fifth group was given intravitreal balanced salt solution and sixth group was given balanced salt solution in anterior chamber. Two rats from each groups were selected randomly and enucleated after 1., 3., 7. and 14. days from the injections. Histopathologic evaluations were made and, corneal thickness measurements were made to the groups with anterior chamber injection. Results: Macroscopic and microscopic findings of all groups same, and inflammatory cell reaction and necrosis were not detected microscopically. Corneal thickness of acetylcholine, carbachol and control groups were 218.75±27.61 μm, 208.75±25.37 μm and 196.88±14.87 μm respectively and there were no statistically difference between the groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: It is seen that there were no toxic effects of 1% acetylcholine and 0.01% carbachol on intraocular tissues.en_US
