Bir üniversite hastanesinde hemşirelerin eldiven kullanma ve el yıkama uygulamalarının incelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırma bir üniversite hastanesinin yetişkin dahili ve cerrahi servislerinde çalışan hemşirelerin eldiven kullanma ve el yıkama davranışlarının incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya 15 'i dahili servislerden 15 'i cerrahi servislerden olmak üzere 30 hemşire katılmıştır. Araştırma verileri katılımsız gözlem tekniği ile toplanmıştır. Araştırmacı tarafından hemşirelerin eldiven kullanma ve el yıkama davranışları gözlenmiş, kullanılan eldiven ve eldivenle temas edilen yüzeylerden örnek alınarak analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmaya katılan hemşirelerin eldiven giyinmeden önce ve eldiveni çıkardıktan sonra el yıkama oranları düşük bulunmuştur. Hemşirelerin bir eldiveni değiştirmeksizin kullanma süresinin 5 ile 50 dakika arasında değiştiği saptanmıştır. Kullanılan eldivenlerin tamamında ve eldivenle temas edilen yüzeylerin 1/3'ünde mikroorganizma ürediği, eldivenin elde kalma süresi uzadıkça üreyen mikroorganizma sayısının arttığı belirlenmiştir. Hemşirelerin eldivenle yapılması gerekmeyen işlemlerde eldiven kullanma (%89) ve eldivenle temas ettikleri alana daha sonra çıplak elle dokunma oranlarının (%80) yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada hemşirelerin büyük bir kısmının eldiven giyinmeden önce ve eldiveni çıkardıktan sonra ellerini yıkamadıkları, eldivenlerin tamamında üreme olduğu ve hemşireler arasında gereksiz eldiven kullanımının yaygın olduğu belirlendi. El yıkama ve eldivenin uygun kullanımı hakkındaki eğitim programları gereksiz eldiven kullanımını ve kontaminasyon riskim azaltabilir.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the glove use and handwashing behaviour of nurses who work on adult medical and surgical clinics in an university hospital. Thirty nurses participated in the study and half of the subjects worked on the medical clinic, and half worked on the surgical clinic. Data were collected by the non-intervention observation technique. The nurses' glove use and handwashing behaviours were observed by the researcher and analyzed by taking samples from the gloves that were used and from the surfaces that were touched by the gloves. The percentage of nurses who participated in the study who washed their hands both before putting on gloves and after taking the gloves off was low. The length of time that a glove was worn by nurses before being) changed varied between 5 and 50 minutes. All of the gloves that were used by nurses and one third of the surfaces that were touched by gloves grew microorganisms, and the number of microorganisms found increased with the length of time the gloves were worn. High percentages were found for nurses' use of gloves for procedures that do not require gloves (89%), and for touching surfaces with the bare hand that had been touched with a gloved hand (80%). In this study it was found that the high percentage of nurses does not wash their hands before wearing gloves and after removing gloves, all of the gloves grew microorganisms and that there was a high percentage of nurses who use gloves unnecessarily. An educational program about handwashing and the appropriate gloves use can decrease inappropriate glove use and prevent risk of contamination.
