Abstract
Background: Violence during pregnancy is prevalent in most parts of the world. Violence during pregnancy poses a significant health risk to the mother and developing fetus. Objectives: This study was performed to determine the physical, emotional, sexual and economic violence and the associated factors during pregnancy in the four health care center regions in Sivas province in Turkey. Methods: This study was conducted as descriptive study. The violence during pregnancy survey form designed by the researcher was used for data collection according to international guidelines of intimate partner violence during pregnancy. Results: In this study the physical, emotional, sexual and economic violence during pregnancy were 18.1%, 53.6%, 32.5% and 29.3%. Overall, education of partners and women’s, employment of partner, health insurance, economic status, unintended pregnancy, and getting regular antenatal care were found significantly related to physical, emotional, economic, and sexual violence during pregnancy (p<.05). Conclusions: Overall, frequency of every type of intimate partner violence is high in pregnant women, therefore there is a need for the evaluation and follow-up for risk factors of pregnant women by nurses and midwives in primary care settings
