Genç ve yaşlı bireylerin duygusal bellek işlevleri açısından karşılaştırılması

Abstract

Girifl: Bu araflt›rman›n amac›, genç ve yafll›larda test edilme süresi ve kelimelerin duygusal yü- kü de¤iflkenlerinin örtük ve aç›k bellek üzerindeki etkilerini incelemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Ergen (11-14 yafl), erken yetiflkin (25-35 yafl) ve yafll› (65+ yafl) olmak üze- re toplam 240 kat›l›mc›ya duygusal yüke sahip kelimeler sunularak, anl›k ve gecikmeli koflulda ke- lime kökü tamamlama ve serbest hat›rlama performanslar› ölçülmüfltür. Bulgular: Yafl, test edilme süresi ve kelimelerin duygusal yükünün aç›k ve örtük bellek üze- rindeki temel etkisi anlaml›d›r. Örtük bellekte yafl ve duygusal yük ile test edilme süresi ve duygu- sal yük de¤iflkenlerinin ortak etkisi anlaml›yken; aç›k bellekte test edilme süresi ve yafl ile test edil- me süresi ve duygusal yük de¤iflkenlerinin ortak etkisi anlaml›d›r. Bu üç de¤iflkenin aç›k bellek üze- rindeki üçlü ortak etkisi de anlaml›d›r. Sonuç: Yafllanmayla beraber aç›k ve örtük bellek performans› yani bilinçli ve bilinçsiz geri ge- tirme ifllevleri gerilemektedir. Sunulan uyar›c›n›n duygusal içerikli olmas› aç›k ve örtük bellek per- formans›n› her yaflta etkilemekte, olumlu uyar›c›lar daha iyi hat›rlanmaktad›r. Olumlu kelimelerin tüm gruplarda örtük bellek performans›n› anlaml› derecede art›rmas›, belle¤in bilinçsiz biçimde olumlu olana yönelerek “olumluluk etkisi” gösterdi¤i fleklinde yorumlanm›flt›r. Örtük bellek aç›s›n- dan ergenler ve yafll›lar aras›nda, aç›k bellek aç›s›ndan gençlerle yafll›lar aras›nda fark görülmesi, örtük belle¤in yafl farkl›l›klar›na daha duyarl› oldu¤unu düflündürmektedir.

Introduction: The objective of this study is to investigate effects of testing time and emo- tional valence of words on implicit and explicit memory in young and elderly individuals. Materials and Method: After valence words were presented to 240 subjects composed of adolescents (11-14), early adults (25-25) and elderly people (65 and above) performance of word stem completion and free recall were tested. Results: Main effects of the age, testing time and valence of words on implicit and explicit memory were significant. While the dual effects of age and valence; testing time and valence were found significant in implicit memory, the dual effects of testing time and age; testing time and valence were also significant in explicit memory. Moreover, the triad effects of these vari- ables on explicit memory were also found significant. Conclusion: Performance of explicit and implicit memory, in other words conscious and inconscious retrieval declines with aging. Emotional content affects explicit and implicit memory in all ages and positive stimulations are retrieved better. The increase in performance of implicit memory brought about by positive words in all groups was interpreted as inclination of the mem- ory inconsciously towards positive words showing a “positivity effect”.
