Schizogony in Orbitoides apiculatus SCHLUMBERGER from the Maastrichtian of Sereflikoçhisar (central Anatolia-Turkey)
Abstract
In this study, a microspheric individual of Orbitoides apiculatus SCHLUMBERGER having a large number of megalospheric embryos near the both peripheries of the test and fossilised in the period of schizogony is described from the Asmabogazi Formation outcropping around the north of the Asmayaylasi Village (Southeast of Sereflikoçhisar-Central Anatolia). The individual including 22 megalospheric embryos in different positions demonstrates and supports the existence of schizogonic type reproduction in rich shallow water orbitoidal foraminifera community as described previously in the examples of Orbitoides species in Turkey.
