dc.description.abstractIn this study, the effect of nano TiB2 addition on microstructural, physical and mechanical properties of the B4C-SiC powder composites were investigated after high energy milling and hot pressing. In the present work, B4C-SiC (57wt% B4C and 40wt% SiC ) powder containing 3wt% TiB2 was mechanically alloyed in a high energy ball mill for 12 h. This powder composite sintered at 22500C for 30 min. in vacuum at 100 MPa. The microstructural and mechanical properties were characterized using XRD, SEM and hardness. Significant increases in hardness were observed due to TiB2 addition. On the other hand adding titanium diboride increases the fracture toughness and decreases the hardness.en_US
