The Mediating Role of Religiousness in the Relationship between the Attachment Style and Marital Quality
Abstract
The marital quality is positively associated with attachment style and religiousness. Few studies discuss these three variables together. In the present study, the mediating role of religiousness in the relationship between the attachment and marital quality of married man and women living in different cities in Turkey was examined. The analysis revealed that the marital quality of the men was higher than that of the women, and the religiousness and anxious attachment of the women were higher than those of the men. The religiousness of the women increased as their anxious attachment decline; in this way, their marital quality increased. The religiousness of the men increased when their avoidant attachment decreased and their marital quality increased. The attachment of women and men predicate the marital quality both directly and via religiousness level.
