In this study, statistical models were developed in terms of contact load, sliding time, hardness, and r/min using the response surface method (RSM). In RSM, central composite design (CCD) was selected for wear tests. In wear tests, responses are the measurements of the weight loss from specimens. Specimens were machined from AISI 4140 and AISI 1040 steels. The wear model was estimated by the least-squares method for each steel after conducting tests in terms of CCD. When they were analysed, the agreement between the predicted and actual wear resistance values was observed within -8 per cent. Then, model adequacy tests were made by performing several new wear tests. Moreover, the models were applied to new tests which consist of different materials and wear factors for the feasibility. In conclusion, predictive wear models using RSM can be applicable for a certain wear system in order to estimate its wear rate.en_US
