Exploring menopause from a multidisciplinary perspective: Biology, psychosocial factors, and clinical insights

Menopause is a period of life, just like infancy, puberty, and sexual maturity. During menopause, the amount of follicles in the ovariesdecreases and with that estrogen production decreases. Over time, estrogen production ceases and the ovaries shrink. Accordingly, the menstrual cycle is interrupted and reproductive ability is lost. The word menopause derives from the Greek words mens (month) and pause (stop). The World Health Organization defines menopause as the permanent cessation of the menstrual cycle as a result of the ovaries losing their activity. This book provides an up-to-date perspective on the management of clinical conditions that can occur in the premenopausal and postmenopausal period. The clinical symptoms that affect all body systems during this period in the woman's life and the possible concerns about how to face it, as well as clinical approaches are discussed.
