Özet

This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of utilizing phytochemicals and plant extracts as green, sustainable corrosion inhibitors for magnesium metal in contact with sulfuric acid (H2SO4) solutions. It begins by highlighting the importance of effective corrosion inhibition for magnesium alloys across industrial applications. The role of phytochemicals as corrosion inhibitors is then discussed, including their extraction from plant sources, adsorption mechanisms, structural effects, and comparative advantages over traditional inhibitors. Key topics covered include phytochemical characterization techniques, quantitative structure–activity relationship modeling, optimization strategies, case studies demonstrating their inhibition efficacy, and challenges associated with their large-scale production and application. The environmental and economic benefits of phytochemicals over conventional inhibitors are emphasized. This chapter concludes by underscoring the promise of phytochemicals as an emerging alternative for efficient and eco-friendly corrosion protection of magnesium alloys in acidic conditions across industries. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Chandrabhan Verma, Ashish Kumar, and Abhinay Thakur; individual chapters, the contributors.
