Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Sosyal Hizmet Mesleğine Ve Sosyal Çalışmacılara İlişkin Farkındalıklarının İncelenmesi: Ankara Üniversitesi Örneği

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin sosyal hizmet mesleğini ve sosyal çalışmacının mesleki fonksiyonlarını nasıl gördüğünü incelemektir. Çalışma kapsamında, nicel araştırma yöntemleri modellerinden genel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırma Ankara Üniversitesi Eğitim ve Fen Fakültesi öğrencilerinden seçilen 341 kişi üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada, katılımcılardan yapılandırılmış bir anket formu aracılığıyla veri toplanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda, katılımcıların temel sosyo-demografik bilgilerinin elde edilmesine ek olarak, katılımcıların sosyal hizmet mesleği ve sosyal çalışmacılar ile ilgili bilgi düzeylerini ve görüşlerini ölçmeye yönelik sorular sorulmuştur. Ayrıca bir sosyal çalışmacıdan yardım almış bireylerin görüşlerini ölçmeye yönelik sorular da sorulmuştur. Veri analizi SPSS 25 aracılığıyla yapılmıştır. Karşılaştırmalı bulguların analizinde Ki-Kare (χ2), Mann-Whitney U ve Kruskal-Wallis H testleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılanların %34,6'sı, sosyal hizmet mesleğini daha önce duymadığını ve %65,5'i daha önce bir sosyal çalışmacıyla karşılaşmadığını ifade etmiştir. Buna ek olarak çalışmaya katılanların çok büyük bir kısmı, sosyal hizmet mesleğini daha geleneksel çalışma alanlarıyla, roller ve görevlerle ilişkilendirmiştir. Araştırmaya katılanların büyük bir çoğunluğu ise sosyal hizmet mesleği ve sosyal çalışmacılar hakkında olumlu görüşler beyan etmiştir. Toplumdaki bireylerle çalışan bir meslek olarak, sosyal hizmete ve sosyal çalışmacılara ilişkin toplumun ne düşündüğü, onu nasıl gördüğü, meslekleşme süreci açısından oldukça önemlidir. Gelecekte topluma yön verecek olan bireylerin sosyal hizmeti tanımalarının, sosyal hizmet meslek ve disiplinine ve sosyal çalışmacılara olan algılarının saptanmasının, sosyal hizmet mesleğinin gelişimi ve güçlendirilmesi bakımından önem arz edeceği düşünülmektedir.

The main purpose of this study is to examine how university students see the social work profession and the occupational functions of social workers. In the scope of this study, general scanning model was used among the models for quantitative research methods. The research is a cross-sectional study on 341 students from Faculty of Education and Science at Ankara University. Data were collected from the participants by means of a structured questionnaire form. In this context, in addition to obtaining the basic socio-demographic information of the participants, questions were asked to measure the participants' knowledge about the social work profession and social workers. In addition, series of questions were asked to measure the views of individuals who received help from a social worker. Likewise, additional questions were asked to measure the views of individuals who received help from a social worker. Data analysis was performed via SPSS 25. Chi-square (χ2), Mann- Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis H tests were used for the analyses of comparative findings. 34.6% of the participants stated that they had never heard of the social work profession before and 65.5% of them had never encountered a social worker. In addition to that, a large number of participants relate the social work profession to more traditional work areas, roles and tasks. The majority of the participants expressed positive views on the social work profession and social workers. As a community-working profession, what the society thinks about social work and social workers and how it sees them, is very crucial in terms of the professionalization process and strengthening of the profession. It is thought that determination of the perception towards social work profession, social work discipline and social workers of individuals, who will guide the society in the future, and them being aware of social work will be important for the development and strengthening of the social services profession.
