Multipl Skleroz Hastalarının Algıladıkları Sosyal Destek İle Yaşam Kaliteleri Arasındaki İlişki
Abstract
Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, multipl skleroz (MS) hastalarında algılanan sosyal
destek ile yaşam kalitesi arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Beş ilde (Ankara, İstanbul,
İzmir, Kocaeli ve Sivas) yürütülen araştırmada, araştırmanın çalışma grubu, Türkiye
Multipl Skleroz Derneği ve yedi hastanenin nöroloji kliniğinde ulaşılan toplam 310 MS
hastasından oluşmuştur.
Araştırmanın verileri, Vickrey vd. (1995) tarafından geliştirilen Multipl Skleroz
Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği (MSQOL-54) ve Zimet vd. (1988) tarafından geliştirilen Çok
Boyutlu Algılanan Sosyal Destek Ölçeği (Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social
The main objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between
perceived social support and quality of life in multiple sclerosis patients. At research
carried out in five cities (Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Kocaeli, and Sivas), the working
group of the research has constituted of a total of 310 MS patients reached at Turkey
Multiple Sclerosis Association and neurology clinics of seven hospitals.
The data of the study were gathered through the use of Multiple Sclerosis
Quality of Life Scale (MSQOL-54) developed by Vickrey et al. (1995) and
Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) developed by Zimet et
al. (1988). Analysis of data was performed using correlation, independent sample t-test,
one-way variance analysis (ANOVA).
According to the findings obtained from the research, a significant, positive and
a weak correlation was found between the perceived social support and quality of life of
MS patients (rBFS=0,174, rBMS=0,239, p<0,01). The perceived social support levels of
the married people were found to be significantly higher than the single ones. The
quality of life of the women and working patients was significantly higher than that of
men and the unemployed ones. It was found that both the perceived social support and
quality of life increased as the level of education and income level increased in MS
patients. A benign MS and relapsing-remitting MS patients and those who had every
three-month examination were found to have a significantly higher quality of life
compared to progressive- relapsing MS patients and those who had every twelve-month
examination.
