Cinsiyet Rollerinin Toplumsal İşlevlerinin, Kadının Konumu Üzerine Etkileri (Gündelikçi Kadınlar Örneğinde)

Abstract

Toplum, cinsiyetlerinden ötürü kadın ve erkeğe ayrı ayrı muamelelerde bulunur; onlara farklı özellikler, davranışlar, görevler, duygular yükler. Ataerkil toplumsal ilişkiler zemininden yükselen bu ayrım, her toplumda rol farklılaşmalarına ve cinsiyete dayalı eşitsizliklere yol açmıştır ve de açmaktadır. Bu rol farklılaşmaları, toplumda kadınları değersiz görülen ev ve bakım işlerinden (çocuk-yaşlı-hasta bakımı) sorumlu tutarken, erkeği ücretli çalışma ve ailenin ekonomik ihtiyaçlarını karşılama görevinden sorumlu tutmaktadır. Kadınlara biçilen bu geleneksel roller, onların ekonomik anlamda kocaya bağımlı olmalarına ve toplumsal hiyerarşide ikincil konumda olmalarına neden olmaktadır. Buna göre araştırmanın amacı, kadının sosyal konumu ile toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri arasındaki ilişkinin neden ve sonuçlarını irdelemektir. Bu irdeleme, gündelikçi olarak çalışan kadınlar ile çalışmayan kadınlar örneğinde karşılaştırmalı incelenerek gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma iki aşamalı olup, ilk aşama araştırmanın kuramsal çerçevesine yönelik anahtar kavramlar ve konulardan oluşmaktadır. İkinci aşamada temel ve alt varsayımlar çerçevesinde oluşturulan anket formu, Sivas merkez ilçede bulunan araştırmanın hedef grubunu oluşturan gündelikçi kadınlar ve eşleri ile kontrol grubunu oluşturan sosyo-ekonomik düzeyi düşük olan çalışmayan kadınlar ve eşlerine olmak üzere toplamda 600 kişiye uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, SPSS 20 programında analiz edilerek ki kare tabloları ile yorumlanmıştır. Sonuç olarak bu araştırmadan elde edilen veriler, kadının kamusal alana çıkıp ücretli çalışarak eve gelir sağlamasının, onun toplumsal konumunu ve toplumsal cinsiyete yönelik algısını olumlu yönde değiştirip yükseltmekte etkili olduğunu göstermiştir.

Sexual differences establish an environment for gender discrimination in the society by ascribing different features, behaviour, duties and emotions to men and women. This division that arises out of patriarchal social relations have paved the way for the attribution of different roles to sexes and subjected women to sexual inequalities which continues today. While such gender discrimination creates a premise to hold women responsible for the domestic works such as housekeeping, rearing children and nursing old and sick people which are deemed as insignificant works, it holds men responsible for a paid employment and meeting the economic needs of the family. These traditional roles that are attributed to women beget economic dependence to the husband and subordination in the social hierarchy. Thus, the purpose of this dissertation is to probe the causes and effects of the relation between women’s social status and gender roles by conducting a comparative research on charwomen and unemployed women The study is based on two stages the first one of which consists of the key terms based on the theoretical framework. In the second stage, the questionnaire form that is prepared regarding the fundamental and sub-assumptions is conducted in the Sivas central district with 600 people in total. This group of people consists of the charwomen and their spouses who are the experimental group of the study and unemployed women and their spouses who belong to the lower social economic class that function as the control group. The data that is acquired is interpreted with chi-square tables analyzed in SPSS 20 program. Accordingly, the data obtained from this study has demonstrated that being present in the public sphere and having a paid employment that contributes to the house economy have a positive effect on women’s gender perception and social position.
