Hydroxyapatite is a crystalline mineral, a complex form of calcium phosphate, and is the main inorganic component of bones and teeth. In the demineralization process, mineral ions are removed from the hydroxyapatite crystals of hard tissues such as enamel, dentin, cementum and bone. Re-acquisition of these mineral ions by hydroxyapatite crystals is called remineralization. Demineralization is a reversible process; therefore, repair can occur if partially demineralized hydroxyapatite crystals in teeth are exposed to an environment that promotes remineralizationtr
