SYSTEMATIC NURSING APPROACH BASED ON ROY'S ADAPTATION MODEL IN MANAGEMENT OF THE PREGNANCY PROCESS
Abstract
SUMMARY
Pregnancy is a process in which bio-psycho-social changes are experienced. It is important to
determine the situations that are experienced or likely to be experienced during pregnancy and
to plan nursing interventions for these situations. In this context, the use of theories and
models by nurses in care increases the quality of care and professionalism, reveals a holistic
perspective towards the solution of problems and guides nursing care. In this context, one of
the leading models in nursing is the Roy Adaptation Model (RAM). RAM aims to provide
nursing care with a holistic perspective, based on the physiological domain, self-concept
domain, role function domain, and mutual attachment domains. In this review, the strategies
that can be followed in the planning and execution of care in all adaptation areas of RAM
according to the needs of pregnant women will be discussed in the light of the relevant
literature. In this context, the importance and necessity of nursing care based on RAM will be
discussed during the pregnancy follow-up process and the adaptation of expectant mothers to
the pregnancy process.
