Heavy metals in some fish species consumed in Sivas Province, Turkey
Abstract
A study was carried out in order to detect the residual levels of some heavy metals (Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn) in the edible muscle tissues of ten commercial fish species, three of which were freshwater fish species and the remainder were sea fish species sold in Siva's market during the winter season of 1994. The residual levels of Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn were determined by atomic absorption flame spectrophotometer. The concentrations were found to be below the limit values for fish proposed by the FAO, and it was concluded that the consumption of these species did not pose any risk to human health.
