A radiological study about the incidence of ureteral anomalies. Number of the ureters on 4160 cases
Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study were determined the incidence of ureteral anomalies. Methods: A total of 4160 intravenous pyelographies were examined for the incidence of anomalies of number of the ureter. Results: Unilateral ureteral agenesis was found in a total of 6 cases with ipsilateral renal agenesis. Ureteral duplication was detected in 125 cases (65 females, 60 males). Out of 125, 107 (85.6%) were unilateral, 18 (14.4%) bilateral. Of the total 143 doplicated ureter, 64 (44.8%) were on the right, 79 (55.2%) ere on the left side. The incidence of the ureteral duplication was found as 3%. Ureteral triplication was found only in one case. Blind-ending duplication and inverted Y duplication were not observed. Conclusion: The knowledge of congenital anomalies of the ureter is important with respect to surgical procedures.
