Abstract
In this study, the histopathologic effects of two volatile anaesthetic agents on human liver halothane and isoflurane, have been investigated. Following halothane and isoflurane anaesthesia, cellular necrosis of hepatocytes were observed. Degeneration, nuclear pleomorphism, necrosis, necrobiosis, focal necrosis, polymorphonuclear leucocyte infiltration and fatty changes, were noted. In conclusion, both volatile agents cause slight liver cell damage without any clinical manifestation.
